Design for an ubiquitous augmented environment for Penn University to host such events as global augmented reality tournaments, VR technology conventions in which guests can attend virtually as well as physically, and various other activities centered around the application and study of telepresence technologies.

Addition of museum, faculty, administrative, and residential facilities to the historic Edgar Allan Poe small house in Philadelphia, PA.
Poe lived in the house for twenty years in which time he was said to have written such classics as The Raven and The Cask of Amantillado. This project approaches the design program by renovating the lot around the house with architecture inspired by themes from Poe's works. The result is an architectural collage which, though not dark in itself, is reminiscent of the dark mind of Poe.

Design for the Stewardson Design Charette, a Pennsylvania state-wide architectural design competition that was established in honor of John Stewardson, a famous Pennsylvania architect from the late 19th century. This particular Stewardson competition focused on the design of a memorial for the town of Centralia, Pennsylvania.
The town was finally abondoned after an underground coal mine fire slowly decimated the community over 30 years. Centralia, once a vibrant community, remains a ghost town to this day. This entry, which received third place, treats the site as sacred ground. A large canopy erects itself over an open pit dug down to expose a few veins where the fire once burned. In the open pit are platforms and plaques describing the sites and exhibits. The rest of the building floats delecately over the ground only touching it sparsely for support. An outdoor walk takes visitors to an observation platform overlooking the old refuse pit where the fire began.
The project was well received by town commissioners who were part of the judging panel and was awarded third place.

Design for a Performing and Media Arts Center (PMAC) for a competition for Penn State University. The program cited a desire to bring together the performing arts and media arts under one roof -- a unique dichotomy that made for very interesting opportunities with the design.
My proposal was to create a building with mechanistic and digital displays playing both practical roles within the building, while also being exposed to the street to indicate the performances occurring within. This creates a dramatic spectacle for passers by and makes the building itself part of the performances it houses.
brand: Envirant
work performed: performed all work – concept, art, interaction design, 3d modeling, animation, programming
The Envirant.com website is a trial in employing advanced rich media technologies for the creation of interactive 3d environments in a browser. It served as a jumping board and excellent testing ground for approaches to 3d ui design. The live site features interactive 3d "items" that can be activated as display mechanisms within which further information about the work and mission can be viewed. In addition, the user is able to roam freely about the 3d environment exploring the various spaces and landscapes.
